Salmond defends the indefensible ...

... when he suggests the UK would be maintained "after a fashion" .... "after separation".

The clown prince of politics said ...
"It is SNP policy to have the Queen as our head of state. That union, that United Kingdom if you like, would be maintained after Scottish political independence. I think that's a real stumbling block about putting forward a question of the United Kingdom."

There is no stumbling block, the Queen might chose to go with Scotland, there is no way this political poltroon can drag the Queen into his nightmarish world, she belongs elsewhere.

Asked if that meant Scotland could still be regarded as being in the UK after independence, Mr Salmond said:
"I don't think it's a very good idea to confuse the issue by talking about united kingdoms when what we're talking about is political independence."
There is no difference between his "political independence" and "separation", it is a clean break, no picking and choosing.  I think the clown prince is very confused, he seems to think the constitutional future of Britain rest with him and the remainder of the SNP circus, there is much more to Britain than this particular jock in a frock.

  1. Isn't the English queen the head of state of loads of ex colonies?

  2. ... that would rule out Scotland, it never was a colony, neither has Wales been a colony, although the ex-colonies chose to share the Queen where they remain as part of the commonwealth .... mostly !

  3. So despite the fact that there was a dual monarchy between 1601 & the Act of Union, the English Queen can now only be head of state for ex colonies & England. How curious.

  4. ... not so curious, Scotland wishes to make its way in the world, we can give it a share of the silver and an equal share of the debts; I believe the majority are unlikely to want to share our head of state with this disgruntled neighbour, I for one would support a movement to prevent the Queen from sharing herself with the new republic, unless of course the new republic joined the commonwealth.

There is a small point, the Queen is not "the English Queen", her title and style in full is "Her Majesty Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and of Her other Realms and Territories, Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith". No mention of England in Isolation.

  5. I must admit it's a very impressive title - although personally I've been a bit mistrustful of very grand self bestowed titles since the late Idi Amin made himself: His Excellency, President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor Idi Amin Dada, VC, DSO, MC, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Seas and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular.

He also believed himself to be king of Scotland.
